Again, I am selling the doll for a friend so I am far from an expert on dolls. I have had mixed opinions on the actual brand, value and history of the doll from many of you experts who do know what your talking about. Some have said that it is a Franz Schmidt doll and not Simon & Halbig but any schmidt dolls that I have seen here on ebay and the net are marked differently than this one so I am still up in the air on the doll. The owner just wants to sell it. I have already had many offers of $750.00 so to be fair and not have to pick who the doll will go to I will list for the $750 that I was offered and let the auction take its toll from there. I know its old and rare so here goes!! good luck..Simon & Halbig are among the finest German doll makers to operate during the 1870's to 1930's. During the 1890's a few S & H heads were used by French doll makers. These french dolls are extremely rare. (As quoted in the 2008 Schroeders doll book) I'm not positive but there is a strong posibility that this is one of the french dolls. The doll is clearly marked S & H, made in Germany on the back of the head. The doll stands just over 32 inchs tall and has a porcelain Bisque head, rare original human hair wig, Moving brown glass eyes with eye lashes that function flawlessly and a full row of teeth, with a wooden and composition ball and joint body. Her face is very attractive. She has pretty rosey pink cheeks and red lips lips, painted lower and upper lashes, multi-stroked raised eyebrows. She has a wood and composition body. She is strung tightly and holds a pose well and all joints are firm. This doll is completely original and intact with no cracks. As you can see in the photos I have not cleaned the doll to retain its antiquity. The clothes on the doll are period correct marked "Made in Portugal"NOTE - I have added a fee of $50 for handling to the shipping price to insure propper packaging by a professional. I'm not exactly sure what they will charge to pack the doll but I will adjust the shipping charge accordingly after packaging. I do not like to list items unless I can be accuratre on the origin ect. The description of the doll is completely accurate as to its physical appearance. The only other markings that I was able to find were on the lower part of the back of her head that reads 1 1/2, and under that 85. I added the photo of that marking as well. I was told that the doll is worth a minimum of $1200. The owner just wants to sell the doll and asked me to list it starting at $1000 and see where it goes from there.
