Description
I am very pleased to present this lovely Hitty I carved from Hornbeam wood.  Hornbeam is a very hard wood, sometimes colorful, with tight graining and is commonly known as ironwood.  Because of its hardness, Hornbeam has been used for tool handles, etc., and is not readily available.  This Hitty suffered an injury that resulted in having to drill her arm holes twice.  She underwent surgery and the unused hole was permanently plugged and glued with a piece of Hornbeam and is barely noticeable when she is undressed.  Because of the extensive work already involved in her carving and my short supply of hornbeam, I decided to go ahead and give her a chance to make someone happy.   I use a variety of tools to hand carve each of my dolls, mostly a Dremel for removing the larger pieces and then onto chisels, files and sandpaper to achieve the fine detail.  When I’m done carving, I apply several coats of tung oil to help nourish and protect the wood.  I use a variety of paints including acrylics and watercolors, and then several coats of a fine lacquer mist are applied as a sealer.  I have signed her on her back as Hornbeam #3.   This lovely Hitty stands on her own at barely under 6 ¼” tall.  I dressed her in a hand-sewn blue floral cotton dress with pearl colored seed beads for decorative buttons.  The bodice is lined in the same fabric and has two snaps at the top back -- the bottom is left open for ease in dressing and posing.  Her pantalets are made from a linen hankie as is her chemise, which is also left open at the bottom.  She is wearing a genuine coral necklace made by Susie Graber.    I use Federal Express 2-day shipping and charge a flat fee of $15 within the continental US, which includes insurance.  The actual shipping amount is usually higher than this and I absorb the overage myself.  International customers, please contact me for shipping amount.  Thanks for looking!
