Antique Leo Moss Black Doll 14" Composite Paper Mache Description : A0604You are bidding on an antique, 1900's, Leo Moss Black Doll. Please see all 7 photos.Leo Moss was a man from Macon, Georgia in the late 1800's and early 1900's. He was known to make dolls that resembled his own family members. Many of his dolls remained in the possession of the Moss family until the early 1970's.Mr. Moss was known for making the heads of molded papier mache. The composite bodies were bought from a white toy dealer from New York who would come to Georgia to trade or sell parts to Leo Moss. This doll is 14 inches long, with inset brown glass eyes. All limbs move. The clothes are probably not original. The body and limbs shows some surface crazing, especially the left leg and right wrist. The back of the neck is marked with a "K"This beautiful doll was appraised in the 80's at $9,500 and has been authenticated as a Leo Moss doll by Myla Perkins of Detroit, Michigan, author of "Black Dolls".
