Description
Watch out the next few weeks, as their are going to be killer treasures..from the sublime to the very unique...Fresh from a very well know Miami philanthropists estate...more treasures from the Phoebe Morse estate who passed away several years ago, at the age of 102. I just came back from buying, again, from her estate...this is a first for me..I adore doll houses and have purchased many of her dolls two years ago..so imagine my surprise, when my eyes found this...can you imagine? The perfect accoutrement for your Victorian doll house...or to become the centerpiece to your mourning collection. From the English, nursery rhyme, or poem, first published in 1744...Poor Cock Robin..its a cemetary plot. Open the tombstone and their is a casket..Beautiful decorative details surround the grave, birds, bees, cows, a wise old owl and more...in wonderful antique condition, a great deal of gilt loss, due to years of oxidation. I am unsure if this is brass or bronze, magnet does not stick. See underside, which must have been what it looked like new. Measures 3 inches long and 2 inches wide. Stands 1.25 inches tall. Made in England, by W. Avery & Sons Redditch. The bottom also has the registration lozenge on the bottom. Top mark is 1-metal, Year J-1880, I-month July, 15 date. Reg. No 635 which was issued 1884-1885. I have provided a copy of the poem, which has several theories about who inspired its composure...Robin Hood, Robert Walpole, and on and on. Pictures provided with and without flash to assist you in seeing the true beauty and condition of this treasure.Thank you so very much for looking and as always I wish you continued luck in finding your "it" on ebay!
